The S/4HANA readiness check is a critical first step in planning and executing a conversion from an existing SAP ECC system to SAP S/4HANA Private cloud or S/4 HANA On-Premise system. It provides a comprehensive analysis of your current landscape to identify potential roadblocks and determine the necessary effort for the migration.

The S/4 HANA readiness check analyses the following aspects, which are relevant for an S/4 HANA conversion:

  • Usage of simplification items in custom code: This is arguably the most important part. SAP S/4HANA features a significantly simplified data model and redesigned business processes compared to SAP ECC. Simplification Items detail the necessary changes to be made in your custom code, interfaces, and business practices due to these changes. The readiness check analyzes your current usage and flags which simplification items directly affect your system and processes.
  • Add-Ons and Business Functions compatibility: Not all third-party Add-Ons or existing SAP Business Functions are compatible with S/4HANA out of the box. The check assesses the compatibility status of all installed Add-Ons and activated Business Functions, providing necessary information on required updates or replacements.
  • Integration Analysis: This step analysis SAP BW extractors, IDOC interfaces, WebServices, RFC- or BAPI interfaces and reports the impact of the S/4 HANA migration to these interfaces.
  • S/4 HANA Sizing analysis: S/4HANA requires a new database and potentially different hardware configurations than your ECC system. The sizing analysis evaluates your current data volume and transaction load to provide a preliminary estimate for the required HANA database size (memory and disk) and CPU capacity for the S/4HANA target system.
  • Financial data quality: Specifically relevant for conversions, this check often focuses on the consistency and completeness of your financial data, especially concerning the New General Ledger (New G/L) and the preparation needed for the migration to the Universal Journal.

Executing the Readiness Check

You can execute the readiness check in your ECC environment to get an overview of the necessary migration effort.

  • Prerequisites: You must apply the necessary SAP Notes to your ECC system to enable the Readiness Check functionality. You can schedule the readiness check as a background job with program RC_COLLECT_ANALYSIS_DATA in SA38. Depending on the system size it will run multiple hours.
  • Output: You can download the analysis data with the report RC_COLLECT_ANALYSIS_DATA and upload to it https://me.sap.com/readinesscheck. The analysis is converted in a nice looking dashboard. For displaying a S-User with Display SAP Readiness Check Analysis permission and for uploading a S-User with Manage SAP Readiness Check Analysis permission is required.

Conclusion

The readiness check allows your organization to accurately estimate project timelines, resources, and costs, significantly de-risking the overall S/4HANA conversion project.
